The ceremonial handover of the new nursing school in Mongo Bendugu marks an important milestone for healthcare in Falaba District, Sierra Leone. The school is intended to train urgently needed healthcare professionals and retain them in the region in the long term. At the same time, Grünhelme’s next healthcare project is already underway in the community of Tuba.
Every year, volunteers dedicate themselves to Grünhelme’s projects around the world. In 2025, 26 individuals contributed their time and skills. Here, five of them share their personal experiences.
In the northeast of Sierra Leone, we are now beginning the construction of a nursing school. The graduates are to be deployed in rural areas in the future, helping to improve local healthcare – including in our four health stations.
Since early August, a new health station has been operating in Durukoro, a remote village in northeastern Sierra Leone – the fourth in the Falaba District. This marks an important step toward the goal of the Sierra Leonean health authority to ensure that everyone has access to medical care within ten kilometers.

Im Februar 2023 starteten die Grünhelme mit dem Bau der Gesundheitsstation in Bamboria. Nach erfolgreicher Fertigstellung innerhalb von nur 8 Monaten konnte diese feierlich der Community übergeben werden.
Seit 2018 sind durch unsere Arbeit bereits vier Schulen im ländlichen Sierra Leone entstanden. Bei Besuchen haben wir uns nun davon überzeugt, wie die Gebäude angenommen werden.
