Support in the flood area (summer 2021)
In July 2021, a severe flood disaster with numerous fatalities occurred in the Ahr valley in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. Although we Green Helmets had never been on a mission in Germany before, it was clear to us that we wanted to help! After all, helping and showing solidarity is one of our core values.
As there was already a large volunteer network of helpers after just a few days and we didn’t want the structures on the ground to become even more confusing, we didn’t set up our own project. Instead, we rounded up Green Helmets from all over Germany who wanted to get involved for a few days or even weeks. This changing team got involved on site via the central aid network and, for example, shoveled away mud, gutted houses and, above all, gave those affected the feeling that they were not alone in their time of need.
