Expansion of a refugee social center in Nador (2015–2016)
In Melilla, a Spanish exclave on the African continent, Europe is sealing itself off from refugees from all over Africa with three eight-metre-high fences. The humanitarian situation on the Moroccan side is dramatic: in the small town of Nador, the security forces use brute force and arbitrariness against the stranded refugees – who are waiting to get over the fence to Melilla and apply for asylum. Together with the Spanish Jesuit priest Esteban Velázquez, we have expanded a provisional social center where women, newborns and injured refugees can receive humane care.
