Typhoon-proof houses made from coconut wood (2013–2014)
After Typhoon Yolanda left more than 1 million people homeless in November 2013, the Green Helmets built new wooden houses for fishermen and farmers on the island of Leyte. Together with the local population, the Green Helmets have built many families a simple but very stable, stormproof home. Volunteer architects, carpenters, structural engineers and civil engineers were involved in the planning and on-site construction of the typhoon-proof houses.
